Mu Daiko public performances

Mu Daiko

Mu Daiko

WHO IS MU DAIKO?
Mu Daiko
is a professional taiko ensemble founded in 1997 by Mu Performing Arts Artistic Director Rick Shiomi. Formed in response to the interest of a few eager students, Mu Daiko has since grown into a nationally recognized taiko ensemble. The group performs classic and original compositions representing a synthesis of influences including Mu Performing Arts' theatrical aesthetic. Members have performed with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Chorale. In 2005, Mu Daiko was honored as one of only four taiko groups in North America selected to perform at the annual North American Taiko Conference in Los Angeles, CA. Mu Daiko has also hosted such internationally renowned guest artists as Kenny Endo, the San Francisco Taiko Dojo, the On Ensemble, and Fubuki Daiko.

Mu Daiko Outreach

In addition to its annual mainstage performance, Mu Daiko participates in outreach programs for over one hundred schools, community organizations, arts institutions, and corporations each year. Mu Daiko also reaches hundreds of taiko enthusiasts through its ongoing taiko classes, as well as elementary, secondary, and college-level workshops and residencies. There will be a 50% deposit due on all outdoor and out-of-town Mu Daiko programs at the time of booking.

“The sound is immense, building in intensity, filling the air with wave upon wave of pulsating rhythm.  The drummers become the physical embodiment of the sound, using their entire bodies to create the urgent sensation of a musical thunderstorm.” – Minnesota Women’s Press

If you are interested in having Mu Daiko perform at your event contact Mu's Outreach Director Susie Kuniyoshi online or call Susie at 651-644-8645."
