NEW GIVING LEVELS in 2025/26…

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Mu Champions Circle—an initiative that honors and deepens the vital role of individual giving in sustaining Theater Mu’s mission. As Minnesota’s only pan-Asian performing arts organization, we rely on the generosity of our community to amplify Asian American voices, cultivate emerging talent, and produce bold, inclusive theater.

This expanded donor program introduces new giving levels inspired by revered Asian mythological creatures, each symbolizing the transformative impact of your support. Whether you’re a steadfast supporter or joining us for the first time, your contribution ensures that Mu continues to be a home for stories that reflect the richness and diversity of our shared experiences. Meet the current Mu Champions—we can’t wait to unveil which Donor Level they are!

DRAGON LEVEL | $10,000+

Majestic. Wise. Eternal.

The dragon is a revered figure in Chinese mythology, symbolizing power, wisdom, and auspiciousness. Unlike the fearsome Western dragon, the Chinese dragon is a benevolent force—ruler of water, weather, and transformation. Donors at the Dragon Level embody this powerful spirit, providing visionary support that helps Theater Mu thrive and evolve. Your generosity commands the skies.

PHOENIX LEVEL | $5,000-$9,999

Resilient. Radiant. Reborn.

The phoenix, or Phượng Hoàng, is a mythological bird from Vietnamese and Southeast Asian cultures that rises from ashes to symbolize rebirth, grace, and virtue. It’s often a symbol of peace and prosperity, appearing only in times of harmony. Donors at the Phoenix Level keep our flames of creativity burning bright, helping Mu rise with purpose and brilliance.

a fox with seven tails on a maroon background, designed by Fuechee Thao of KNOCK, inc.

FOX LEVEL | $2,500-$4,999

Mysterious. Clever. Ever-changing.

Inspired by the Japanese kitsune, the seven-tailed fox is a shape-shifting spirit known for intelligence, magic, and transformation. With every tail gained, the fox grows wiser and more powerful. Donors at this level are dynamic changemakers, propelling Theater Mu forward with curiosity, strategy, and imaginative energy. You help us tell stories that shift perspectives.

a sea turtle swimming calmly among the waves on a navy background, designed by Fuechee Thao of KNOCK, inc.

TURTLE LEVEL | $1,000-$2,499

Steadfast. Sacred. World-bearing.

Honored in Hindu mythology as the Kurma avatar of Vishnu and celebrated in Pacific Island cultures as a guardian of life and knowledge, the sea turtle symbolizes endurance and cosmic support. Turtles carry the weight of the world—and so do you. Donors at the Turtle Level provide foundational strength, allowing Theater Mu to move with purpose across time and tide.

FAQs

  • Since Mu’s founding in 1992, we have been blessed with donors who have understood the importance of Asian American representation on stage. As individual giving at Mu has grown, we wanted to better thank people for the gifts, which meant expanding what it means to be in our Mu Champions Circle, our designation for our major donors.

  • If you are already part of the Mu Champions Circle, you will be automatically placed into the giving level that your gift corresponds with. You will see this reflected on the site starting Sept 1, 2025, when we fully launch these giving levels.

  • Thank you for your generosity and for supporting Asian American voices!

We will be launching the new giving levels on our site starting Sept 1, 2025. Your name will be next to your animal giving level and will renew every fiscal year (unless you change your donation amount/frequency).

  • The Theater Mu staff wanted to create new giving levels that were reflective of the generous spirit, the importance, and the consistency of our major donors, so we looked at creatures in Asia’s vast mythology and folklore.

To make our vision come to life, KNOCK, inc., worked with us pro-bono, and its senior art director and designer Fuechee Thao came up with these beautiful images.

  • If you have further questions or want to talk about your gift, please contact development director Wesley Mouri at wesley@theatermu.org or by calling our office at (651) 789-1012.
