AN APOLOGY TO AND FROM A MOTHER

Produced by Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company & PlayCo, in association with Kelly Strayhorn Theater, this one-person, autobiographical show has creator and performer Adil Mansoor trying to reconcile his queerness, his mother's fear for his afterlife, and their love for each other by inviting her to co-dramaturg Antigone, the classic Greek tragedy about two sisters on opposing sides of obligation. Together Adil and his mother mine Greek tragedy, Islamic traditions, and their own memories to create an original performance locating love across faith.

This show is co-presented with the Jungle Theater and will be here for one weekend only!

PRICE

We strive to voice the stories of the Asian American community, and in order to bring performances to those communities whose stories they tell, we are committed to making them as accessible as possible. PAY AS YOU ARE pricing asks those who routinely pay market value for theater tickets to choose to pay that amount; it is the actual fair market value of the ticket. If an audience member needs to pay less, they can choose to pay less—as little as $10 per ticket.

Seating is general admission.

Amm(i)gone will take place at the Jungle Theater, located at 2951 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis. Paid and free street parking is available, as well as paid parking lots such as the one behind the theater/along Garfield Avenue. The Jungle is also along Metro Transit bus routes 4, 21, 53, and 113. MEET THE CREATOR & Co-DIRECTOR

ADIL MANSOOR (he/him) is a theatre director centering the stories of queer folks and people of color. He has developed work with the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, Kelly Strayhorn Theater, the New Dramatists, and others. Recent directing projects include “Daddies” by Paul Kruse (Audible), "Gloria" by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Hatch Arts Collective), "Kentucky" by Leah Nanako Winkler (Pittsburgh Playhouse), and “Once Removed” by Paul Kruse (Tribeca). Mansoor is a founding member of Pittsburgh’s Hatch Arts Collective and former artistic director of Dreams of Hope, an LGBTQA+ youth arts organization. He has been an NYTW 2050 directing fellow, a Gerri Kay new voices fellow with Quantum Theater, an art of practice fellow and community leader with Sundance, and part of the inaugural artist caucus gathered by Baltimore Center Stage, Long Wharf, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and Woolly Mammoth.

MEET THE CO-DIRECTOR

LYAM B. GABEL (they/he) is a trans* director, performance-maker, and community organizer who creates containers for collective remembering and radical celebration. He is obsessed with archives and his ever-evolving process combines extensive research, emerging technology, and embodied improvisation. They founded New Orleans-based LAST CALL, a collective that documents and interprets neglected queer history, and through that, co-created and -directed the nationally touring musical Alleged Lesbian Activities. They have developed work at Ars Nova, Judson Church, Pipeline, Ashland New Plays Festival, the Theater Offensive, and the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center, among others. Their work has been funded by the NPN creation fund commission, MAP, the National Performance Network, NEFA's National Theater Project, and Alternate Roots. Lyam teaches acting and directing at Lehigh University. Drama League Resident 2021, Drama League Fellow 2017. BFA Virginia Commonwealth University, MFA Carnegie Mellon University.
