  • We’re seeking a production manager for Fifty Boxes of Earth and Stop Kiss with availability to start ASAP.

  • Theater Mu is seeking an assistant director for its world premiere of Fifty Boxes of Earth. This person will support director kt shorb across meetings, rehearsals, and performances with note taking, observations, and more.

    Stipend: $1,000

    We will review applications on a rolling basis as the assistant would ideally start this fall.

  • Theater Mu is seeking a project manager to help with the research, interviews, and community engagement for our commissiom with Katie Ka Vang, Hmong Futures. Tasks include event/meeting coordination, tabling, graphic design, and note taking.

    Pay is $20/hour for up to 200 hours (or $4,000 total). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with an ideal start mid-October.

  • We are always looking for enthusiastic teaching artists to join our growing team. Theater Mu connects with multiple youth and community programs throughout the year, including school residencies, summer camp, public library events, and special workshops focused on theater, social justice, and other topics.

    Each Mu classroom is led by talented Asian American theater artists and artist educators who often have extensive formal theater arts training and a wide array of professional and personal experiences. As educators, they bring their whole selves to share their expertise in theater arts and storytelling, working with others, and Asian American identity.

  • Theater Mu welcomes script submissions for consideration in upcoming seasons. Before submitting, please carefully consider whether the script fits Theater Mu’s mission. Theater Mu is unable to respond to every submission; there is no need to contact us to inquire about the status of your script or for feedback. If we have questions or would like to proceed with your script, we will contact you when the time is right.

    NEW PLAY IDEAS

    Theater Mu often commissions new work based on ideas from a variety of sources. If you are a playwright or community member with a story you believe should be told on our stage, please submit a short paragraph description along with any relevant research.

Want to join our artists list? To receive updates about audition notices and other opportunities for actors, email info@theatermu.org with the subject line "Artists List." Please include how you'd like to get involved, resume, headshot, and, if you're comfortable, ethnic background. At any time to this email, designers can send a copy of their resume and portfolio, while actors can send video submissions of monologues, musical numbers, etc.

Staff/Admin Openings


  • The artistic director for Theater Mu reports to the board of directors and is a collaborative partner with the managing director. The artistic director’s primary responsibilities are the development and implementation of artistic vision, community connection and integration, leadership and coaching of staff, and acting as the public face of Theater Mu, both locally and nationally.

    $90,000-$100,000 per year plus benefits. Applications are due Nov 1.

  • We’re looking for someone who can assist us in getting the word out about our events and programs! Tasks include video and social media creation, website management, research, and more.

    Stipend: $15/hour, ~12 hours per week from mid-January through mid-May
