Since August 2019, Lily’s vision for Mu has focused on widening the circles of Mu’s artistic impact, community partnership, and representation of the entire AAPI diaspora, both onstage and backstage. This has taken form through emerging artist fellowships, premieres by local playwrights of Southeast Asian and mixed race descent, and more.
In honor of Lily’s legacy, and to support the search for the next full-time artistic director, we are excited to announce the Lily Tung Crystal Widening Circles Fund. Inspired by Lily and Anh Thu’s belief in leading with a spirit of abundance rather than scarcity, we are asking our community members to support this time of transition and help ensure that the level of artistic excellence and community engagement Mu has become nationally known for remains steadfast.
We have set a goal of $50,000 to be raised between now and Aug 31. These funds will go directly toward sustaining and investing in the future of Theater Mu. Will you invest in the next phase of Mu’s legacy by donating $50 or more today?

14 playwrights were part of the Mu Tang Clan and Emerging Playwrights’ Circle.
22 fellows, assoc., & asst. received on-the-job training, including Mags Scanlon, who became the light designer for Blended 和 (Harmony).
Nearly 100 students enrolled in our Mu Training Institute classes for emerging BIPOC artists.

In all of my auditions, one question kept hitting me in the head after the other. “Am I enough, a 5’6 Asian-American boy, with little to no professional experience?” ...
Being a Mu Fellow has changed my life. As an actor, I’ve got to share my work and my face with a wonderful theater company. But as a person, I’ve gotten to learn that my identity and my story are just as important and that more stories call for someone like me.
