VIRTUAL FAQ & INSTRUCTIONS
Theater Mu is excited to be at the forefront of bringing theater online for audiences to experience in the comfort of their homes. We know the virtual stage is new to many of us and we appreciate your willingness to embark on this new journey with us. Below are some frequently asked questions and answers we’ve borrowed from our friends at East West Players. If you need additional assistance, please contact us at (651) 789-1012 or info@theatermu.org.
How many devices can I use?
You can use different devices for each viewing session, but you can only stream with one device per ticket at a time. If you end a viewing session on one device, you may switch to a different device and use the same ticket link to start a new viewing session.
Where can I watch virtual events?
Any device that is connected to the internet and has an internet browser can access our virtual events.
What is Broadcast Live and Video On Demand?
Broadcast Live works like a traditional in-person show. You will only be able to watch the show at a specific date and time which you’ll choose when purchasing your virtual ticket.
Video On Demand means after you purchase your virtual ticket you can access the video at any time during the week stated. Once you press play on the video link you have 48 hours to view the video as many times as you like within those 48 hours.
Can I cast an event to my TV?
Virtual events must be viewed in a web browser, whether that is on your computer, tablet, mobile device, or smart TV.
For best practices on streaming to your TV, see device specifics below:
Apple TV/Airplay: First, make sure both your Apple devices are on the same WiFi network. It is recommended to open and begin watching the video on your selected Apple device and then click the airplay icon in the top right corner of the video to cast the video to your Apple TV.
Smart TV: If your TV has a web browser app, it is recommended to log into your email account first on your TV. Next, open the email containing your show specific link and click the button link to watch. This should open a new window, pulling in your unique access code and the video player. The video should start automatically, if not, click play.
Amazon Fire Stick: In order to watch on with your Amazon Fire Stick, you must first download the free browser, Amazon Silk.
Download App: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-com-Amazon-Silk-Web-Browser/dp/B01M35MQV4
Using this browser, log into your email and open the show specific link and click the button link to watch. (You may need to click the request desktop site in the top menu to read the whole email.)
Allow the browser to leave the page.
This should open a new window, pulling in your unique access code and the video player. The video should start automatically, if not, click play.
Roku: First, make sure both your mobile device and Roku device are on the same WiFi network. In order to watch on your Roku device, you must first download the following app on your mobile device for $4.99 and follow these steps:
Download App: https://channelstore.roku.com/details/150902/mirror-for-roku
Add the Mirror for Roku channel to your Roku device and then open the channel.
On your mobile device, open the Mirror for Roku app and mirror your device to your Roku device.
Open the link from your email in your mobile browser, rotate your device and click play to watch it full screen.
Turn the volume off on your mobile device to enjoy!
These best use practices do not recommend using Chromecast at this time.
How do I access my virtual ticket?
STEP 1: All tickets to virtual content will be delivered to your email address once you’ve reserved your ticket. In your email confirmation, scroll to the bottom half of the email and look for ‘click the button(s) below’. You will see a blue button with the name of your virtual event. This is the button that will direct you to your virtual content.
STEP 2: On the date of your event, approximately 10-15 minutes before start time, click the link to open the virtual platform. If you are getting ready to watch a Video On Demand event during your viewing window, the same steps apply.
In order to view your event, you must accept the terms and conditions of the platform and enter the access code provided in your confirmation or reminder email. The access code can be found directly below the access link. If you are clicking the link from your email, the access code should automatically populate.
Do you have any helpful tips?
Make sure your computer volume is up and not muted.
Make sure the video player volume is not muted. When the stream has begun just hover your mouse over the video and click the white speaker that appears in the middle of the screen.
If you have joined before the set performance time you will see a countdown. You are in the right place. The performance will automatically begin at the designated start time. If it does not start, please try refreshing your browser.
For live events, you’ll have the opportunity to chat with fellow audience members at the same time! Say hi, where you’re joining from, and let us know how you’re enjoying the show.
