INTRODUCTION TO DEVISED THEATER

with PAULINE MOLL & MORGEN CHANG

CREATING DEVISED WORK THROUGH COLLABORATION

Devising theater is a process of creating a performance from the experiences and collaborative work of the ensemble, rather than a pre-written script. In this workshop, participants will learn by doing. First, we’ll get to know each other and figure out what themes we are interested in. Then, we’ll use creative experiences to explore those themes. This can include personal narrative, improvisation, movement, prop and costume creation, writing text, and more. Finally, we’ll use what we discover to co-create a short performance.

Participants will come away with skills in physical and vocal expression, tools for creating with others, and expanded visions of what theater can be. Prior experience is not necessary. While the workshop is called an introduction class, experienced artists will also find space within a supportive ensemble to hone their skills further. Masks (KF94/KN95 or better) are required in sessions to protect ourselves and each other.

This class is designed for working or aspiring BIPOC artists who are 16 years or older. Registration deadline is Monday, Nov 6, at 11:59 p.m. CT.
