LEARN HOW TO AUDITION LIKE A PRO!
Join Theater Mu artistic director Lily Tung Crystal and local artists Katie Bradley and Wesley Mouri as they offer insider knowledge, tips, and tricks about auditioning. This a la carte workshop series begins with a seminar discussing topics such as finding audition materials, seeking out audition opportunities, and how to present yourself in front of a panel of auditors.
Next, sign up for one-on-one coaching sessions to hone your audition monologues and song selections. Finally, the series concludes with the opportunity to show off what you’ve learned by participating in a mock audition, after which you will receive feedback to help you in the future.
Classes are made for BIPOC artists 16 years or older.
Mar 8: Audition Tips and Techniques
To kick off the series of workshops, join Lily Tung Crystal, Katie Bradley, and Wesley Mouri for a seminar presentation about industry practices such as formatting a headshot and resume, finding audition materials and opportunities, and how to present yourself with confidence in networking and audition settings. After hearing from the panelists, there will be an opportunity for Q&A. Simply attend the seminar or put what you’ve learned into practice by signing up for one of the coaching sessions below.
Mar 13 & 20: Monologue Coaching (two-session workshop)
Katie Bradley offers 18 years of experience performing both locally and across the country. Need advice on cutting down a lengthy monologue? How do you impress someone in two minutes or less? Unsure of what to do with your hands? Katie is offering a two-session master class that includes one-on-one coaching on how to best present yourself and your monologue in the audition room.
*Eight to 10 students will be able to receive coaching. Auditing through observation is available for additional students or if you do not feel prepared to present.
Mar 14 & 21: Musical Theater Coaching (two-session workshop)
Wesley Mouri has performed at local theaters such as the Guthrie and the Ordway, and traveled the world performing aboard cruise ships for two years. Are there really songs you’re not allowed to sing at an audition? What exactly is a 16- or 32-bar cut? What do I need to communicate to the accompanist? In these two sessions, Wesley will not only answer these burning questions, but also help students prepare a song selection for their next audition.
*Eight to 10 students will be able to receive coaching. Auditing through observation is also available for additional students or if you do not feel prepared to present.
Mar 27: Mock Auditions (1 session)
To conclude this course, Lily, Katie, and Wesley will act as a mock panel of auditors. Students will perform their monologue, song, or both while the rest of the students observe, followed by direct feedback from the auditors to help everyone learn and improve their skills. Take the opportunity to hone your craft and try out new material in a safe and constructive space.
*Previous attendance of either/both the monologue or the musical theater coaching is required to be an active participant in the mock audition.
