Stages Theatre Company and Theater Mu are seeking youth actors for the world premiere of The Name Jar! The show opens Mar 22 and runs through Apr 14, and it has youth roles for those ages 10-18 years old.

SYNOPSIS

Unhei has moved from Korea to America with her family and has started a new school. When the kids struggle with her name, she wonders if she should choose a new one to fit in. Her classmates decide to help out by filling a glass jar with names for her to pick from, but will any of them fit? The Name Jar is a celebration of culture, family and what’s in a name.

SEEKING FOUR NAMED ROLES & 5-8 ENSEMBLE MEMBERS

  • UNHEI - Female, Asian/Asian American. A recent immigrant from Korea who loves her family. She is worried about fitting in with all her new surroundings. Seeking a performer who is able to speak some Korean or willing to learn.

  • AMARI - Male, Black/African American. A classmate of Unhei’s. A good listener and empathetic to Unhei’s situation.

  • RALPH - Male, White. A classmate of Unhei’s. Impulsive and excited, Ralph loves sports and new friends.

  • ROSA - Female, Latina. A classmate of Unhei’s. Smart and warm, Rosa connects with her new classmate.

  • ENSEMBLE - Five to eight additional actors will play elementary school-age children in an ensemble.

WHEN & WHERE 

Auditions: Nov 27 & 28. Audition appointments are required and given on a first come, first served basis to those who sign up on the online form.

Callbacks: Nov 29.

Please prepare a monologue or story to tell, two minutes or less in length. We encourage you to contact auditions@stagestheatre.org about any accommodations you may need for your upcoming audition. Stages Theatre Company is happy to provide materials in advance, large print scripts, or other requests as needed.

All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held at Stages Theatre Company, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins. Youth auditions for Stages Theatre Company’s Dragons Love Tacos: The Musical will also take place at this time. Masks will be optional for auditions and rehearsals.
